South Australian CFMMEU State Conference

Published: 12 Sep 2019

The CFMMEU held its first State Conference in South Australia since the MUA amalgamated with the CFMEU and the TCFUA. The rules of the new Super Union required an election for positions at the South Australia Branch State Conference.

The conference was chaired by Jamie Newlyn as the new President of the CFMMEU SA. The elections were conducted by the Australian Electoral Commission and the results were discussed at the conference. All Divisions reported on a range of matters including;

  • building unity across the union divisions;
  • media reports on active militant unions;
  • industrial disputes, automation and  enterprise bargaining,;
  • safety and delegate training;
  • influencing the ALP; and
  • regional opportunities for union support.

Delegates and committee members from all divisions attended and queries from the floor indicated that getting all divisions together to discuss issues is valuable.

Delegates from the Construction and Manufacturing divisions suggested they would be interested in a tour of the waterfront as a good way to commence  learning about each other’s industries.

Prior to the meeting delegates enjoyed a pizza lunch and after the meeting delegates concluded the afternoon with a few cold beverages at the MUA bar.
