Assistant National Secretary Warren Smith reports that after long discussions and campaigning by the MUA, the union has successfully won agreement from CSL that MUA members will crew both the CSL Brisbane and the CSL Whyalla.
This will see the CSL Australian crewed coastal fleet expand to eight vessels.
"It's a win for seafarers jobs and a win for coastal trading," said Smith.
The mechanics of the crewing are still being worked out but two extra vessels on the coast is certainly good news for seafarers and for the industry. The Australian crews will be onboard the vessels in early 2013.
