Vale Comrade - Kevin Palmer

Published: 18 Oct 2011

The Victorian Branch wishes to pass on its condolences to Kim and the family of Kevin Palmer who passed away on Wednesday 12th October.

Kevin worked at Patrick East Swanson Dock where he started shortly after the Patricks dispute.

Kevin enjoyed the camaraderie and was well respected by his work mates.  He was a delegate at the 2004 MUA National Conference with his daughter, Stacey, who still works at ESD.

Kevin's brother, John, works at DP World and son, Kerey, works at Patrick Webb Dock.

Kevin was also well respected within the boxing community and he held an impressive record, winning all but 6 out of his 33 fights.  He won the best novice fighter at Festival Hall in 1972.  Kevin, with his brother, Mick, trained young people at the Port Melbourne Gym for over 15 years.

Many young people benefited from the commitment and loyalty he gave them in a sport that was a big part of his life.

Kevin passed away courageously; the way he lived his life and in the company of his close family.

I am grateful of the great friendship we shared.  You will be sadly missed.

Kevin Bracken
