The Minister for Transport Anthony Albanese reiterated his commitment to moving forward with the shipping reform program last week at the launch of Voices from the Ships, Australian Seafarers and their Union.
The Minister for Transport Anthony Albanese reiterated his commitment to moving forward with the shipping reform program last week at the launch of Voices from the Ships, Australian Seafarers and their Union.
At the launch, held in conjunction with the union's federal council at the Australian National Maritime Museum on April 7, the minister told the estimated 200 guests of his determination to push the revitalisation of Australian shipping to the forefront.
"As the largest island continent we have the 5th largest shipping task in the world, but we are not players on the international shipping scene," he said. "We should be."
Minister Albanese said we needed get the policy frameworks right so that Australia was a world player in shipping.
"This is a modern union prepared to embrace change in the interests of its workers, its members; in the interest of the industry, but also in the interest of the nation," he said.
"I'm committed to doing my bit. "
