Vale Rex Munn, The Singing Socialist

It is with great sadness that I report the passing of the Singing Socialist Rex Munn. Rex died peacefully this morning after a brief battle with cancer aged 84. Rex Munn was a legend of the Labour Movement in South Australia, the President of the MUA Retired Veterans Committee, a wharfie of 36 years culminating in his election as Vigilance officer of the WWF in Port Adelaide leading to his retirement in 1987.

It is with great sadness that I report the passing of the Singing Socialist Rex Munn.

Rex died peacefully this morning after a brief battle with cancer, aged 84.

Rex Munn was a legend of the Labour Movement in South Australia, the President of the MUA Retired Veterans Committee, a wharfie of 36 years culminating in his election as Vigilance officer of the WWF in Port Adelaide leading to his retirement in 1987.

Rex loved his Union and was a committed Socialist and continued fighting for the working class to the time of his death.

He was Vice President of the SA May Day Collective and always led the May Day Dinner in renditions of the Red Flag, The Internationale and Solidarity Forever.

Rex is survived by the love of his life Marcia and a host of children, step children and grand children.
