Representatives of the Transport Unions Federation (MUA, RTBU and TWU) today presented DPW senior management a letter expressing the concerns of the unions and making clear our expectation that Dubai Ports World respects trade union rights in every port it operates in around the world. The AMOU were also signatories to the letter.
On top of local matters raised with DPW specific concerns were also raised about DP World offering the new workers at its London Gateway Terminal lower wages and conditions than at other DP World UK terminals, and that DP World has not allowed UNITE to have access to the Terminal and has so far not recognised or begun collective bargaining with the union.
DP World’s actions at a number of terminals in India were also raised and expressions of solidarity came from Australian unions with a call to DPW to rectify the way they work with Indian Unions and respect trade union rights and freedom of association.
A call was also made to implement a collective bargaining agreement in its Peruvian terminal where DPW refused to apply a judgement from the Peruvian labour court.
Representations to management are also occurring in ports locally with the same message to DPW, that transport workers of the world are watching closely developments with DPW and a developing unity of action is arising to ensure that the excesses of the company are reigned in.
