Two maritime workers were killed last week in the US Port of Longview when a line tethering a ship snapped.
Bryan Jacobs, 34-year-old, an International Longshore and Warehouse Union member and father to three kids, died at the scene.
Ping-Shan Li died at Southwest Washington Medical Center after he was critically hurt during the incident.
Li, from China, was the chief mate of the Ansac Splendor. He was 41 years old.
Two other workers, a longshoreman and a security guard, were hurt but are expected to be okay.
Paddy Crumlin, ITF President and MUA Secretary said dockers and seafarers in Australia and around the world reach out with the deepest of sympathy and sincere and heartfelt condolences to the families, friends and workmates of Byron and Ping-Shan.
"Both deaths are felt keenly by maritime workers around the globe, in the case of Byron he was a true brother, union activist and proud longshoreman and his death on the job reflects the courage and commitment he and all dockers display when they turn up for work each day.
No workplace death or injury is acceptable to our dockers movement. Our fervent wish is that our thoughts for them somehow eases their great pain, and that our actions campaigning for a safe workplace free of that danger is continued with increased determination in memory of our dear friends.
Again our thoughts and prayers are with all of the families.
