Until it amalgamated with the Waterside Workers Federation in 1993 to form the Maritime Union of Australia, the Seaman's Union of Australia was the oldest maritime union in the world.
Diane Kirkby is the author of the book Voices from the Ships: Australia's seafarers and their union, and Pat Geraghty is the former Federal Secretary of the Seaman's Union.
