Environment Protection Authority (EPA) Chair, Barry Buffier, and WorkCover NSW met with representatives from several NSW Unions this morning, including Unions NSW, Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy Union (CFMEU), Maritime Union of Australia, Transport Workers Union and the Electrical Trade Union to listen to concerns about material being shipped from the Barangaroo site in Sydney, to Port Kembla in the Illawarra.

Mr Buffier told the meeting that work to determine whether or not the material can be reused is still underway.

“Further shipments to Port Kembla cannot be undertaken unless a new Resource Recovery Exemption is granted and Lend Lease has not yet applied for a new exemption.

“The EPA said that further discussion with the unions will occur prior to issuing any new exemption,” Mr Buffier said.
