Demand a Stevedoring Code of Practice

Published: 30 Apr 2013

For more than two years, the MUA has led a campaign to achieve, for the first time, a code of practice for stevedoring safety.

A strong safety code will help create a waterfront where every wharfie comes home from work safely.

We are close to victory. Safe Work Australia has now released the final draft  for public comment.

The big stevedoring companies tried to block its release, hoping that delay would kill the code.

But, because the voices of thousands of people — maritime workers and our friends and supporters — the code is now out for public comment.

Now, to get it over the line, we need YOU to sign our submission supporting the code.

Too many workers have been killed on the wharf, just doing their job. It’s time to take a stand.

Click here  to sign the MUA submission for a stevedoring code of practice. And ask your friends and family to sign it too.

Together we can make this happen—for the benefit of every single wharfie and their families.

Because every wharfie should go to work knowing that they will come home to their family alive and well.
