*COVID-19: Letter to employers regarding paid pandemic leave*

Published: 17 Jul 2021

Members,

The MUA Sydney Branch Executive has just met following the 11am announcement from the NSW Premier and NSW Chief Medical Officer about the tightening of COVID-19 lockdown controls.

As it is currently understood, residents from the Fairfield, Liverpool and Canterbury-Bankstown Local Government Areas shall be placed into lockdown from midnight tonight until 30 July 2021 and exemptions shall only be given through the Public Health Order to emergency services workers and aged care workers. This will restrict MUA members from entering their workplace through no fault of their own.

The MUA Sydney Branch Executive is currently writing to all maritime employers calling on them to immediately place any affected workers on to paid pandemic leave until such time as these restrictions are lifted.

This paid pandemic leave needs to be separate from the workers own accrued leave entitlements including personal leave, annual leave and long service leave.

A copy of the letter is below.

This claim made by the MUA on behalf of the members will be followed up with all employers in the upcoming days.

If there are any issues, please get into contact with the MUA Official responsible for your site.
