The MUA youth are a vital part of our union, ensuring the union’s continued success into the future. The MUA youth are made up of members under 35 and constitute approximately 20% of our membership base.
Each branch of the MUA has a Youth Committee, run and controlled by rank and file members on a voluntary basis. Anyone interested is welcome to join these committees and get involved. At a National level, representatives from each branch are elected to form the National Youth Council. The Council provides an avenue for young voices to have their say in the direction of our union’s future.
The MUA Youth aim to build upon the history of our great union and support fellow members with their struggles in the workplace. As the members decide how they wish to run things, the exact set up of each local youth committee varies, but they are united in their goal to build, activate and educate the youth. This ranges from regular social events, actions, protests, fundraisers, creating educational materials, all the way to hosting national conferences. We also aim to inform young members of their rights at work, the history of our union and the importance of working safely.
We are always looking for more passionate young members to get involved!
Please feel free to contact your local branch (details below) to find out more, or follow our national youth socials!
