International Women's Day -March 8 2008

Deputy National Secretary Jim Tannock, National Lead Organiser Bernie Farrelly and National Training Officer Eddie Seymour, joined the MUA Women on the International Women's Day March.

The Women headed up by joint Womens Liaison Officers Mich-Elle Myers and Sue Virago were also joined by Raelene Jefferson, Suezette Hill, Dot Zammit, Jane Hyslop, Helen Condie and Vicky Sorenson.

The day was a massive success with all organisations and unions represented. Some of the Issues highlighted were:

  • The inequity of Womens wages
  • The Gap between indigenous and non-indigenous women
  • The lack of Women's representation at the governments 2020 conference.
  • The suffering of migrant women under Workchoices.

The March shuts down the streets of sydney goes from Town Hall up George st to King st and finishes at Hyde Park with speakers, music and stalls.

It is fantastic display of unity and the National Women's Committee apreciate the support of the men who attended.

Everyone is always welcome so we hope to see more next year.
