Women's Committee Election Results

Mich-Elle Myers elected MUA Women's Liaison Officer, Sue Virago elected Women's Liaison Officer ITF.Another 9 women elected to the committee. One vacancy in Tasmania is still to be filled.

Mich-Elle Myers, Patrick, Port Botany has been elected MUA women's liaison officer, with Sue Virago, Dubai Ports, Port Botany elected to the MUA International Transport Workers' Federation women's liaison officer position. Both women are represented on the MUA council.

The results are as follows:
WA, Maree Woods, Dampier wharves; NT Tracey Crosby, Darwin Ports Corp; SA Elaine Smart, Dubai Ports; Tasmania, Julie Ansell, TT Line Call Centre; Jodie Larkins, Spirit of Tasmania; Victoria: Maryanne Walker, Spirit of Tasmania; Michelle Mackay, Dubai Ports; NSW, Suezette Hill, Sydney Ferries; Qld: Julie Holland, Dubai Ports World.

Meanwhile Mich-Elle Myers has written to all branch officials on behalf of the women's committee reminding them of union policy to include women on all job and branch committees as per National Conference 2004 resolutions as shown below:

93.Women's Participation :

RESOLVED that for negotiation / site and branch committees a minimum of one woman is included where possible in their structures, ensuring a continuous information flow between Union structures and general issues dealt with accordingly at site and branch levels.
The union has consistently supported the involvement of women in all levels of the union from National down to the committees and delegate structures where women are employed.
