MUA Women's Committee Elections

Election of the MUA Women's Committee 2007-2011

The Women's Committee plays an important role in the democratic structure of the Maritime Union of Australia. At present, 5% of the membership is female and this number is growing as more women enter maritime occupations covered by the MUA. The Women's Committee allows female members views to be heard and to develop policy to advance their interest and the interest of the wider membership.

As well as being part of Branch and job committees, our female members are represented at the highest level, with delegates participating in National Council, all major delegations, and have representation on the Women's Committee of the ITF.

There are 12 representatives on the Women's Committee, elected on a state-wide basis by all women members. This structure was endorsed by National Council resolution in October 2006.
