Women@Work: Strong Unions Need Women

Women'sTraining July 14th-19th

Women are still talking about their St Georges Basin experience.

The July Women's training course.
The July Women's training course.

The original idea for the "Women's training week" was to provide women members with information about the union, how they fit into the unions@work program and ultimately give them the opportunity to share ideas and experiences from all corners of the Maritime industry.
The July training also saw the launch of the "Strong Unions need Women" campaign aimed at increasing the level of activism amongst MUA women members.
The participants have accomplished many things since July; some have endeavoured to locate women in remote parts of the industry within their states, providing vital links into the women's network; others have become more active in their own workplaces and branches.
We encourage all women members to play a more active role in union activities, attend stop work meetings, and further assist in improving the visibility of women within our union and industries in general.

Keeping in touch

It was over a year ago now that the first MUA Women's teleconference was held, (13th of December 2001) we are still meeting bi-monthly (via teleconference) maintaining the close friendships that were made at the St Georges Basin and continuing to share idea's for future campaigns. If you would like more information on when the next teleconference is being held or would like to join the networks mailing list, ensuring you receive the latest teleconference minutes, then please contact Sue Virago the Women's Liaison Officer at svirago@mua.org.au or by phone 02 92658427.
