Sydney Ferries future in peril

Published: 21 Mar 2011

The MUA has again weighed in to the debate on the future ownership of Sydney Ferries.

MUA Sydney Branch Secretary Paul McAleer today told the Ten Network that Barry O'Farrell, if elected NSW Premier Saturday, should keep his hands off Sydney Ferries.

This follows a rally at Manly Wharf yesterday urging the NSW Liberals to ensure Sydney Ferries stays in public hands,  thus saving the jobs of hundreds of workers.

Barry O'Farrell knows 'selling' the Sydney icon would be unpopular, so he's saying he will 'franchise' them instead.

Either way, it means handing the keys to a private company which will put profit, instead of passengers, first.

The story will air on Channel Ten news this evening.
