US wharfies vote down bosses proposal Dear all, Please be advised of the following developments. At the longshore caucus meeting on 24 July delegates discussed PMA's contract proposal document and longshore delegates have voted unanimously not to accept the PMA's proposal. Delegates will continue to meet and discuss further steps that may to be taken regarding the rejection of PMA's contract proposal. As soon as I have received more information I will send you an other update. After the vote that took place the longshore caucus delegates adjourned to attend a mass rally organised by the AFL - CIO, San Francisco Labour Council and the ILWU. Over 1000 people attending the noontime rally located in front of the PMA headquarters in SF. Speaking at the rally was ILWU President Jim Spinosa and Linda Chavez Thompson Executive Vice President of AFL - CIO National office, Linda Chavez Thompson stated to the crowd that if we allow the ILWU to be crushed we will surely all be next. Also speaking at the rally was San Francisco Mayor Wille Brown who stated " This city must not allow under any circumstances that these employers prevail." " All of labor is prepared to unite with the ILWU. Even George Bush cannot save them ( the employers. ) " I'll keep you posted. Kees Marges.
