PETITION IN RELATION TO FRACKING IN WESTERN AUSTRALIA

Published: 12 Dec 2018

We the undersigned oppose fracking in Western Australia and call on this Government to immediately restore the state-wide moratorium until this issue can be put to a referendum of the people.

Scientists have demonstrated that Fracking poses a serious risk to the health of the people, long term damage to the environment and causes social harms in the community. We believe that Western Australia should focus on increasing renewable energy to combat climate change and should not rely on controversial methods to extract fossil fuels such as fracking. We note that Victoria and Tasmania have banned fracking all together and believe that all West Australians should have the same right to say NO to fracking in West Australia as the McGowan Government has given to traditional landowners and farmers.

We therefore ask the Legislative Council to put the issue of fracking to the people in a referendum as soon as possible so all West Australians can have their say on this important issue.
