Last night Maritime Union of Australia Members joined hundreds of people in Wollongong in a candlelight vigil calling for peace in the Gaza-Israel conflict.

Organised by the South Coast Labour Council the crowd was made up of a diverse cross-section of the community, according to relieving South New South Wales Branch Official Mick Cross.

“The crowd was made up of people from all backgrounds who came together in a quiet peaceful protest to demand an end to this conflict,” Cross said.

“The SNSW Branch members who attended, fully supported the call for the immediate raising of the blockades which will allow the Palestinian people to begin the extremely slow and heartbreaking process of rebuilding homes, schools, hospitals and ultimately their lives.

“It is important to show support that we won’t stand by and allow Israel to take control of the Palestinian lands in this way; murdering men, women and children in the process.”
