Offshore EBA update

25 June 2002

By Wal Pritchard - WA Branch Deputy Secretary
This News Item is restricted to the MUA Hydrocarbons Industry Division

Negotiations still continuing with all three maritime unions and employers

Offshore Oil and Gas Industry EBA negotiations continue with the first meeting taking place on May 29. All industry respondents were present together with the three maritime unions and Australian Mines & Metals Association acting as convener.

The AMOU were represented by their national president Fred Ross and National Officer for Western Australia, Brad George; AIMPE by National Secretary Henning Christiansen and WA Branch Secretary, Phil Olsen; MUA by WA Deputy Branch Secretary Wal Pritchard and Assistant Branch Secretary Keith McCorriston. These meetings were confined largely to generic mainstream issues.

Unions@Work played a major part in the MUA's submission arising from the log adopted at the National Offshore Conference in October last year. In keeping with this practice delegates from the respective operators are meeting with the employers together with the branch officials in additional meetings. This method solved some of the logistical problems of a continued plenary session.

To date meetings have been held with Pacific Manning on June 4, Stirling Marine on June 6, Total Marine on June 11 all in Fremantle; Australian Offshore Services at Barrys Beach on June 14, with Mermaid Marine on June 24 and Tidewater on June 27.

Following emails to vessels and notification at May Monthly meeting delegates nominated have been Dave Dixon, Max Ward and Ken Dietz from Pacific Manning; Dave Page and John Ryan from Stirlings; Neil McPharlane, Steve Mansfield and Sandy Petheridge from Total; Werner Coors, Howard Norman and Tony Eglington from AOS; Brian Roberts, Keith Russell and Dougal Neesom from Mermaid with Gino Ferrara, Les McEvoy and Chuck Ingleston from Tidewater. Gary van der Hoek has been nominated to represent the MUNES in Dampier.

Further tripartite meetings with all three unions and the companies were held on June 6, June 13 and are scheduled for June 27. ITF Coordinator Dean Summers attended the June 6 meeting on the foreign flags issue and Victorian Deputy secretary John Higgins attended the discussions with AOS.

At the June 27 meeting, the proposition from AMMA for a plenary session will be considered to examine the full logs of the employers and three unions. A possible date and venue would be early July in Fremantle.
