Maritime Workers rally against Howard27 June 2005By Robert Coombs - Sydney Branch Secretary Workers from the wharves, ships, tugs and ferries will rally out the Prime Minister's Sydney offices against government moves to strip workers of their rights. Members of the MUA will first assemble at Circular Quay at midday to hand out leaflets to the public condemning the new industrial laws the Howard Government is set to implement after July 1. A crowd of around 100 maritime workers will then march to the PM's rooms at 70 Phillip Street to attend a streetside meeting of speeches and reports. "Tomorrow's action is part of a whole range of activities we have set for the ACTU week of action to draw public attention to the dangers of the new IR legislation and vocalise our opposition to the government," said MUA Sydney Branch Secretary Robert Coombs. "Maritime workers and their families are so angered by the government, they have also voted to stop work on Friday morning for four hours to attend the UnionsNSW rally at Sydney Town Hall." Tomorrow's rally will involve no industrial action.
