Ged Kearney snubbed

MUA members are not averse to taking a stand as was proved when ACTU president Ged Kearney visited our members at the Mermaid Marine supply base at Dampier.Image - Ged.jpg

Kearney was told she could not engage with members during a recent site visit, as part of her Pilbara tour.

Despite the desperation of Mermaid Marine to prevent Ged from speaking to workers, our members gave her a fantastic reception.

“Congratulations to our Mermaid Marine members in ensuring Ged was given the respect she deserved.” WA Branch organiser Doug Heath said

Mermaid were not the only company to snub Kearney, there was resistance from most of the big Pilbara miners to prevent Kearney entering sites owned by the likes of Rio Tinto, BHP and Fortescue Metals Group.

Kearney was in the Pilbara as part of a tour organized by CFMEU WA secretary Mick Buchan.
