Call for Members at P&O
The union is asking stevedoring workers employed at P&O ports to submit matters for debate and consideration for the upcoming delegates conference. The self-funded conference will be held in Sydney in mid-April so as to involve rank and file workers in the next round of enterprise agreement negotiations. Resolutions arising from the conference will be the framework of the union's log of claims for the EBA. The key issues are permanency and job security, said National Secretary Paddy Crumlin. The Patrick EBA negotiations were a major step in developing proper consultation and involvement of workplace delegates. And that's the model we're using for the P&O negotiations." Mick O'Leary reports that the union has now reached agreement with P&O for around 50 casual workers to be promoted to PPG positions as part of the labour review and EBA negotiations. Rank and file delegates from the workplace will be included on the national negotiation team as well as regionally on local issues. All items for conference are required to be in national office no later than March 22. Meanwhile National Training Officer Graham Young is preparing a survey which will be mailed out to all P&O members so the union can identify all the major issues in the workplace.
