Stevedoring CampaignsCampaign to eliminate Manual Twist-Lock OperationsThe Union has initiated a campaign to eliminate Manual Twist-lock Operations in our terminals and bulk and general sites. The campaign comes as a result of consistent complaints by our OH&S Committees of the dangerous situations that wharfies expose themselves to when required to work on container tops when manually releasing twist-locks. The OH&S Committee have also raised concerns that some members are ignoring procedures when working in work-cages and not securing themselves effectively when required to leave a cage. This is not withstanding that the whole manual procedure is extremely cumbersome, does not conform to best practice procedure and is not very productive or efficient. 21 May 2003 [full story] Dock workers shut down European ports ITF mobilises dockers throughout Europe in campaign to stop shipowners bypassing stevedoring labour and employing crew or casuals to stevedore vessels 12 March 2003 [full story] Safety at Work 15 October 2002 [full story] Stamp out Union Busting International Transport Workers' launch campaign to protects stevedoring workers worldwide 11 March 2002 [full story] Call for Members at P&O The union is asking stevedoring workers employed at P&O ports to submit matters for debate and consideration for the upcoming delegates conference. 08 March 2002 [full story] Public Campaigns: You can view MUA's publicly available campaign information in a variety of ways.
