Yarra Campaign UpdateBy Sean Chaffer
Extract from National Office Report
The campaign committee have continued to meet and have enlisted the services of a film maker to document the issues and dispute that occurred on board the CSL Yarra. Contact has continued with ALP politicians to use Parliament to continue applying pressure on the Federal Government. The Newcastle Branch is planning to leaflet Agquip, a big agricultural festival to take place in John Anderson's electorate at Gunnedah in August. Three maritime unions supported by the ACTU are back before the AIRC on Friday 28 June, 80 William Street commencing 12.00p m. The action is ongoing and about roping CSL to pay Australian award conditions while operating on the coast. The employers have been arguing legal jurisdictional issues and have indicated an appeal in the Federal Court should the unions be successful. The union continues to meet with Greenpeace who are actively campaigning around shipments of nuclear waste.
