Protest Iranian unionist abduction and arrestBy MUA News
Petition and protest for the release of Iranian union leader Mansour Osanloo imprisoned in Tehran
Iranian union leader Mansour Osanloo, abducted by unidentified assailants in Tehranon June 10 after his return from meetings with the International Transport Federation in London has now been found back in prison. The President of the Syndicate of Workers of Tehran and Suburbs Bus Company Mansour Osanloo has campaigned for union rights, despite threats, intimidation and incarceration in recent years. He travelled to the UK and Brussels to brief audiences of trade unionists on the Iranian workers' struggle in June. The MUA has joined the ITF and ITUC (International Trade Union Confederation) to again pressure the Iranian Government for his release. "Our members have petitioned and protested outside the Iranian Embassy in the past and we will be working with global unions to esculate the campaign in the future," said MUA National Secretary and ITF executive board member Paddy Crumlin. "We are calling on maritime workers and their families to protest this latest attack on worker and union rights." Mansour Osanloo has been imprisoned twice previously, in 2005 soon after establishing the union and leading campaigns for better pay and conditions and again the following year. Witnesses to the latest abduction report he was severely beaten as he was dragged off the bus and abducted by car in this weeks attack. SIgn the petition and write your protest
