Vote against Sydney ferry privatisation

By MUA news

The Sydney Daily Tele is running a poll to see if the public would cop a fare hike on Sydney Ferries after the MUA warned today that's what privatising the fleet would lead to. Have your say. Vote against a fare hike and for the harbour icon to stay in public hands

SYDNEY ferry passengers could have to pay more than double for their fares if the service was fully privatised.

An analysis of Sydney Ferries Corporation balance sheet shows the average $3.37 fare would have to rise to around $7 to cover losses.

Would you use the ferries if fares doubled? Vote at our home page poll.

Transport chiefs, the maritime union and potential buyers of the service will today take part in a roundtable discussion on the "models of delivery and funding of ferry services in Sydney", where privatisation is high on the agenda.
